Atkins Update! Days 1-2.5

Hello! So I'm actually not hating this as much as I thought I would. I'm not feeling hungry between meals (which i usually do) and I don't really feel like I'm missing anything. It's probably the new diet *high* so I'm sure this chipper spirit will evaporate by the time day 14 comes around.

Right now I'm on the Induction Phase of Atkins. I'm allowed 20 net carbs a day. Net carbs are the grams of carbs minus the grams of fibre. Now 12-15 of these nc's have to be from vegetables. The other 5 can come from cheese, sweetner, some condiments, some beverages.

It may sound like a pretty meager existance so I thought that I'd post my recent menu.

Day #1 Weigh in = 200.0

Breakfast - 2 eggs and 3 strips of bacon
Lunch - 2 mini cucumbers, cheese, ceasar salad and an Atkins Bar

That afternoon I got a wicked migraine! So dinner was pretty uninspired cause I just wanted to go to bed!!

Dinner - 2 egg omlette with green peppers, 2 sausage patties and half a tomatoe and some cheese curds.

At this point I went to sleep for 12 hours! It was actually pretty awesome!

Day #2 Weigh in = 197.8 (lost 2.2 pounds)

Breakfast - Scrambled eggs (NO MORE EGGS PLEASE~) and bacon
Snack - Coffee! lol. Cream and splenda count as a carb each
Lunch - Tuna salad wrapped in romaine leaves, ceasar salad
snack - 2 mini cucumbers
Dinner - Turkey patty with fried onions, cheese and bacon! Boo yah! and a ceasar salad.

Day # 3 Weigh in = 194.8 (lost 3.0 pounds total lost 5.2 pounds)

Breakfast - 1 egg, bacon and sauteed asparagus
Lunch - Tuna salad with green peppers in it, ceasar salad, some cheese, and a coke zero

So far that's where I am. I know it sounds like a lot of the same foods, but I was working with what I had in the house that was acceptable. I went grocery shopping last night and got a lot of fresh veggies. Writing it down made me realize that it sounds boring, but I haven't been bored at all....except with the eggs....

There is a recipe to make a Muffin in a Minute that has under 3 carbs. So I'm going to try that for breakfast tomorrow.

If anyone has any carb free breakfast ideas, PLEASE let me know!

I'll keep you all updated!

<3 Steph.

P.S. TONS of water! At least 1.89 litres, but I tend to get a lot more than that!

  1. AWESOME - you are doing an amazing job. And good job on the water. Water is so good for us, it's impossible to ignore the benefits. It helps carry nutrients to the different parts of our body, it helps our muscles and joints stay hydrated, therefore they work better and heal faster, it helps carry the bad stuff out of our bodies, it helps us feel fuller longer. I could go on. Here are some links I found to low-carb cooking.

  2. Don't be afraid to eat non-breakfast foods for breakfast... it doesn't have to be eggs, it can be leftover protein and veggies, etc. I liked eggs 'cause they would fill you up for most of the day, but they tend to start sucking. Try some omelette recipes or add different kinds of cheeses :)

I would also try to make normal breakfast LC..... egg mcmuffins with no muffin, etc.

Check out that forum, it's GREAT :D Maybe i'll join you one day soon.

  3. wow. good for you! i have honestly thought atkins was a load of shit, but i guess it really works for some people. i'm weighing in at 158 lately. the heaviest i have ever been. i realize most of this is educed by beer and late night eating of the summer... and well, my annoying friend depression, but i'm totally freaked out. i suppose though, it's not that i normally eat horribly but my lack of motivation to do much of anything is where i fall short. hopefully i can shed some lbs like you soon... since i'm NOW trying to work on it. <3 need to get between 130-137.

  4. Heather, when you're in your own place I'm going to start bugging you to start with me!!! I know in your situation it would be hard. :(

Kara!!You're going to do well, yay for starting to care! I'm sure right now it's only water weight, but I'm excited to see where this goes.
You've got half the weight to lose that I do, but the closer you are to your goal the slower it seems to change. Don't give up! :)

  5. Haha, yes. Currently food is all there is to live for.
But when it's not, I can't wait! Not sure if I'll be doing Atkins outright or more of a modified low-carb. I might just jump into the later phases (low glycemic fruit, whole grains, etc). I just love cheese too much to eat low fat. I need to exercise too. I can Atkins myself to 180 lbs over and over again but I have not seen 179 in years :( So I think exercise will fix it.

When I move please start harassing me promptly.

  6. Don't you worry I will totally harass you. :)

I'm at 192 right now and my hurdle has always been the 190's. When I finally see 189 I just might cry, in a good way of course!
