The Oprah Syndrome

Ok....I know you guys aren't all fans of Oprah (I'm looking at you Auntie Paula!) but I seem to be doing something that she so often does. Talks the talk but can't walk the walk, or jog the jog, or run the run....you get it.

Lets face it, I'm not new to weightloss. I've tried things that don't work, I've tried things that do. I know pretty well what works for me and what I should be doing. But do I do it? Hell no!

Why is that? Why do we refuse to do what is right, while justifying why we're doing wrong?

I think that I am so used to falling of the wagon that I wouldn't know how to handle success. Sounds stupid right? You should handle success by celebrating and being happy. To me celebrating means food. Food means gaining weight (at least the foods I'd celebrate with would) and going back to where I started. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm scared of success because it would mean the start of the decline.

I have to stop thinking about weightloss as something that will end at some point. It's a life long "journey" (I hate to use that word, it sounds so hokey) and there isn't really a finish line. That also scares me....cause I don't want to have to worry about calories for the rest of my life.

Geez....why can't Biggest Loser just come knock on my door and offer me 250,000 bucks. Now THAT would motivate me! :)

Review: EA Sports Active for the Wii

I said that I would start to do some reviews on things that I've tried for weightloss. I figured I would start with the EA Sportsactive because it's the tool that I'm using the most right now.

Please keep in mind...this is NOT a game. You think it's going to be fun? HA!

With that said, the EASA has 2 modes. The 30 day challenge or just workouts. For both of these settings you will use the equipment provided. A leg strap that you put around your right thigh that you put the nunchuck in. This is used to monitor your movements. You also get a resistance band for the strength training excercises. The balance board from the Wii fit is also compatible and certain days of your workout will focus on exercises using it.

30 Day Challenge: This setting gives you 30 days to complete 20 workouts. You workout for 2 days and the 3rd is a rest day. The workouts vary a lot. One day will be about legs, the next could be arms, it could be both or you could be focusing on the sports games that are part of the workouts. You have a trainer that monitors your progress and gives you encouragement.

Also in the 30 day challenge you have a journal. This tracks your workouts, your daily healthy habits and will allow you to enter other activities that you do in a day. Based on these 3 things you get a rating at the end of the day either bronze, silver or gold. This is helpful because even on your days off of the workout you can still make sure that you are being healthy by filling in the data.

Workouts: You can also skip the 30 days challenge and just do the pre programmed workouts that they have. I haven't really done this at all....I would assume that they just alternate through all of them for the 30 day challenge. Maybe some people feel that the 30 day challenge is too stressful and would rather workout at their own pace....or on their days off want to get in some more exercise. You are also able to create your own workouts by scrolling through the various exercises and picking the ones you want.

I friggen love this thing. It's motivating and challenging. I'm working on the 30 day challenge on easy. When I'm done I'll start on medium....someday I may try hard...I'm pretty sure it would kill me now. :)

That was a really long winded post...and I'm not sure that I covered everything. But I'm just excited about it and wanted to share it with you guys. If you've been wondering about it or contemplating buying it I would say DO IT! Even if you just do it when you don't feel like going to the gym or don't want to go outside, this isn't any less of a workout.

If you have any questions, or I didn't explain something enough just let me know in the comments.

Back to work and back on track

Monday morning!

It was REALLY hard to get out of bed this morning. It was nice and rainy and there was thunder. But I got up. Have to try and start this week properly.

Let's all pretend my 4 day weekend never happened shall we?

I'm going to be doing 2 workouts this evening to try and catch up. Can you catch up on working out? I'm going to try it. I tend to work to hard in the beginning, get hurt and give up...so maybe I need to slow down upfront....and then gradually build to longer workouts. I'm just impatient.

Hope you all have a good week. I'll post again soon.

Called it.

So as I said, the weekends or days that I have off are really not great for me.

Thursday was an ok day to start with...but ended up drinking some beers which lead to getting some pizza. I only had 2 slices of pizza, and it was crappy pizza pizza so it could have been worse for me. Seeing as there is so little cheese and the crust is pretty thin. I think I would have enjoyed breaking my diet with a slice from Gabriels a little more, but c'eat la vie.

Today I was up early running errands and only had a coffee and fritter during the day. I got home and decided to clean my house (yay accidental exercise!) I've been trying to follow the rule of only eating when I'm hungry....and I guess last nights late night pizza party threw off my eating schedule. i didn't end up eating a meal until about 6:30 today. :S

I haven't gotten a real workout in the past few days, I've been getting shin splints and am trying to let my leg rest a bit. I'll be back to my regular workouts tomorrow though and hopefully the food is back on track.

Last night when I was going to bed I thought of a good topic to write about....but a can't remember for the life of me.

If anyone reading this (presumabley only 4 of you) has a question or wants my view on a certain weightloss strategy just leave a comment and I'll let try and answer it.

Thanks for reading.

Don't tease me Wii Fit!

One of the ways that I am tracking my journey is with the Wii Fit body test. I use it mainly to just weigh in and watch the graph (hopefully) move down and down to my goal.

Today I lost a little faith in what the wii fit is telling me.

I got on at the same time I get on everyday, which is after I get home and get a work out in. Today it told me that I lost 3 pounds since last time....which was yesterday at the same time. Even though I did work out really hard yesterday, I knew that there was no way I lost that much. I turned off the wii. Let it sit for a bit and tried again.....turns out i actually gained .2 of a pound.

So to my wii fit I say, "come on, don't tease me like that, baaaby!" (said in a Conan O'Brianesque manner)

On the plus side, i did work out again and had a pretty good day in terms of eating. Got in 1.5 litres of water already. I try to drink about 3 litres a day...it's not as hard as it sounds. It does make for getting up in the middle of the night like an old lady though. I drink a lot of perrier for the variety.

I surprisingly got the next 2 days off work....and if you've tried to lose weight you know that the weekends are the hardest and I'm now going to be struggling against a 4 day weekend. We'll see how that goes.

p.s. if you're reading this leave a comment and tell me what you do to try and stay true on the weekends!

YAY! Followers!

Sweeet!

I'm glad I've got you guys following me. :) This is exactly what I wanted so that I stay motivated.

There are a lot of things that I embarass myself with on a daily basis...ie: tripping, spilling food, not having good bus etiquette...etc. But this is something that I really don't want to embarrass myself over.

So thanks.

July 21st 2009

This is the first post for my new weightloss blog! Huzza! I've wanted to do a blog for a long time, but never really knew what to write about. Obviously, write what you know, and what I know is a struggle with weight. (Thanks to Val for giving me the idea of blogging again!)

I don't want to get into any of the sappy "woe is me, i'm overweight" crap. I just want to chronicle this journey and give out some good tips and tell you what's crap about weightloss. And I'm sure I'll throw in some grumblings about my day to day life as well.

So! What am I doing to lose weight!? A lot these days.

1) Eating better (duh) this includes limiting sweets, junk food, and pop. I'm proud to say I haven't been drinking pop regularly since June 17th. I used to drink about 3-4 cans of diet pepsi or coke zero a day. :s

2) Excercising (duh, again) My boyfriend bought me a bike for my birthday, so I'm getting into the swing of riding again. It's not like riding a bike....what a stupid expression. Riding a bike is something you have to re-teach yourself....there's a lot of swerving involved the first few times you get back on!

I have the Wii fit, the EA sportsactive for the wii and a turbojam dvd that I alternate between. I'll delve deeper into reviewing those in a later post.

I guess all this to say that I'm trying my best to do this the right way. I guess if you are struggling with this as well you can keep an eye on this to get some inspiration and what not. Also if you're a snoop (like me) you may just want to follow this to get some not-so-interesting gossip.

Cheers,

Steph

p.s. I'll think about posting numbers when I'm more comfortable...or maybe once I reach my goal. LOL.
